Marks Wraps Up Successful Hoops Career; Gives Back To Community

Faith Academy of Marble Falls senior Aaron Marks progressed during his final two high school basketball seasons, so he finished his four-year career on the right note. That’s evident because he earned back-to-back first-team all-district honors as an underclassman, as well as a second-team all-state nod as a senior.

“I think the biggest thing was learning from experience,” said Marks. “When you play, the more you pick up little tips and tricks that you didn’t know as an underclassman. On top of that, I had all my teammates get older and they improved as well, and they helped me a lot all year.”

Marks credits his enhanced basketball awareness and smarts for the jump in play, which also helped him direct his team to four consecutive TAPPS postseason appearances. But, he couldn’t have achieved what he did without local and state support. That included the 2018-2019 VYPE Austin Private School Boys Basketball Player of the Year poll win, which saw 27,386 of the 48,390 total votes go to him.

“It was really awesome to see the community support me and to have people that I know and love vote like that,” said Marks.

But, that’s not the first time his community’s helped him.

“Community is huge,” he continued. “It’s something that keeps me grounded. It lets you know that people around you care and you have a lifeline of people to support you because not every day is going to be a good one and they can help you get through the tougher ones.”

That’s why him being a three-year National Honor Society member is a fitting part of his high school resume.

“We did community projects,” he said. “It was really cool to get out in our community and help people and show that love that they showed us.”

His most enjoyable and recent service opportunity was at Camp of the Hills, a Christian summer camp that is eight short miles away from Marks’ school.

“Everybody helped them clear some land for a project, and that was just a lot of fun,” he said.”
