VYPE Austin’s UIL Softball Regional Final Breakdowns & Predictions

Four Austin area teams have advanced to the regional final of the UIL softball playoffs. Check out our matchup breakdowns and predictions to see who moves closer to the season’s ultimate prize.

6A Region IV Final: Austin High vs. New Braunfels Canyon

What you need to know: Austin High finished second in 25-6A and won six of its seven playoff games in 2019, while fellow state-ranked team New Braunfels Canyon won 26-6A and is a perfect 8-0 in the postseason. The Maroons are led by 2018 all-state player Danielle Serna, and the Cougars have a roster full of college-bound players.

Series Pick: Canyon

4A Region IV Final: Fredericksburg vs. Geronimo Navarro

What you need to know: Fredericksburg won 28-4A and eight of its nine playoff games, while Geronimo Navarro grabbed the 30-4A title and a 7-1 postseason record so far. Both teams are state ranked, with the Battlin’ Billies at five and the Panthers at eight.

Series Pick: Fredericksburg

2A Region IV Final: Thorndale vs. Weimar

What you need to know: Thorndale and Weimar are a combined 15-0 in the 2019 playoffs, but that’s not the only reason why they’ve impressed. The Bulldogs’ last two sweeps were against Shiner and Riviera Kaufer, and the Wildcats bounced back from a sub-.500 regular season record.
