Less than a week after taking home the Gatorade Texas Baseball Player of the Year, Colleyville Heritage star, Bobby Witt Jr., was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year for his fine senior season.

On hand to present the award to Witt was Texas Rangers Hall of Famer, Michael Young,

Witt is a highly-touted prospect and could very well be a Top 5 pick in June’s MLB Draft. He’s helped guide Heritage to a 35-3 record and a spot in the 5A Region I Finals against Lubbock Monterey, which begins on Friday.

The Gatorade Player of the Year award is the most prestigious award in high school sports. It recognizes the nation’s most elite high school student-athletes, choosing winners in 12 different sports. Student-athletes are evaluated not only for outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character.

Witt beat out Riley Greene from Hagerty High School in Oviedo, Florida, and Corbin Carroll from Lakeside High School in Seattle, Washington, who were the other finalists for the award.
