VYPE 411: Burton looks back on stellar junior season

Cy Ranch’s Riane Burton had a stellar junior season, which included brining in accolades such as first team, all-district, TABC All-Region, TCGA All-State and a member of the All-VYPE first team.

The Cy Ranch Mustangs finished the season with a District 14-6A Championship and an appearance in the Regional Quarterfinals.

VYPE caught up with Burton to discuss her distinguished high school career thus far.

VYPE: Who has been your biggest influence in your sporting life? And Why?

BURTON: My father or my older cousin Kaayla would be my biggest influences. They’ve both had very successful careers and have always provided me the best possible advice when it comes to my career.

VYPE:  What has been your greatest HS memory so far?

BURTON: My greatest high school memory so far would be winning district, and hopefully we’ll be able to do the same next year.

VYPE: What’s your biggest strength? Or What do You Bring to Your Team?

BURTON: I bring energy to my team, especially when things aren’t going our way. I know it only takes one play to change the flow of the game, and that’s what I try to do in those tough moments.

VYPE: What do you see yourself doing in 5 years?

BURTON: I see myself playing my final year in college, and hopefully in the NCAA tournament.

VYPE: What advice would you give a younger athlete starting his/her HS career?

BURTON: Keep working no matter what, because it only gets more and more difficult the further into high school you get. You could be the most talented person in the gym, that’s still not an excuse to stop because someone is always going to try to be better than you.

VYPE: What do you do outside of sports?

BURTON: Outside of sports I’m more than likely spending time with family.
