VYPE HOF: Cy Woods’ Elliott paying it forward after illustrious career

Desiree Elliott was a force at Cy Woods and LSU

 

One of the most dominant hammers in the state of Texas’ volleyball scene over the past decade was Cypress Woods’ Desiree Elliott. Elliott earned AVCA Under Armour High School All-American honors as a Wildcat, playing for coach Ashley Ahlfinger. As a junior, she helped lead Cypress Woods to the regional semifinals, which made school history.

The highly-coveted recruit signed with LSU and eventually played professionally.

The 5-foot-10 high-flying outside-hitting/middle has been named to the second class of the VYPE Hall of Fame, which will be inducted at the VYPE Awards presented by Houston Methodist Orthopedics and Sports Medicine April 28th at Stereo Live.

After her playing career at Cypress Woods, Elliott help lead LSU to an NCAA appearance and two SEC West Division titles. She was the 2010 SEC Freshman of the Year and earned all-SEC honors twice in four years. Elliott became the 20th player in LSU history to record over 1,000 kills.

Her play propelled offered her the opportunity to play in Europe for the Power Cats of Dudingen, Switzerland. After her pro career, she moved into coaching and is now back with Coach Ahlfinger at Cypress Woods.
