VYPE 411: Duchesne’s Dual Sport Star – Catherine Van Pelt

In the fall, junior Catherine “Cee Cee” Van Pelt helped the Duchesne Academy of Sacred Heart claim their first-ever field hockey state title.

She then led the Charger basketball team to a 13-12 record, while averaging over 16 points and 9 rebounds per game.

TAPPS named Cee Cee to first-team, all-district and second-team, all-state, as well as being named one of the top field hockey players in Texas.

VYPE caught up with Duchesne’s dual-sport athlete to discuss her high school career thus far.

VYPE: Who has been your biggest influence in your sporting life? And Why?

VAN PELT: My dad has been my biggest influence in my sporting life because he has always pushed me to be the best I can be and taught me how all my hard work will pay off. On top of that, he is my biggest supporter because I can always count on him to be cheering me on in the stands.

VYPE: What has been your greatest HS memory so far?

VAN PELT: My greatest high school memory would have to be winning state for field hockey earlier this year. It was so exciting because it was the first time in Duchesne’s history of winning a state title for field hockey!

VYPE: What’s your biggest strength? Or What do You Bring to Your Team?

VAN PELT: I think that my biggest strength would be my leadership and enthusiasm. I always try to keep the team motivated during practice and games so that we can all get better individually and as a whole.

VYPE: What do you see yourself doing in 5 years?

VAN PELT: In 5 years, I see myself close to graduating from college and furthering my education by going to law school. I hope to have played four years of college basketball at this point in my life.

VYPE: What advice would you give a younger athlete starting his/her HS career?

VAN PELT: I would tell a younger athlete to always give 100% effort. Whether it be in practices, games, or other workouts, I believe that by trying your hardest you are bound to become a better player.

VYPE: What do you do outside of sports?

VAN PELT: I am a part of National Charity League Memorial Chapter, so I do a lot of volunteer work specifically at philanthropies such as Kid’s Meals, Senior Meals on Wheels, and my church. If I have free time after sports, school, and volunteer work, I love to hang out with my friends!
