VYPE San Antonio’s UIL State Softball Predictions


Four San Antonio area softball teams have advanced to the UIL state final four. Check out our classification previews to see who has the best shot to finish the season with a title.

6A State Semifinal: New Braunfels Canyon (36-7-0) vs. Klein Collins (37-2-0)

What you need to know: Canyon has advanced to the state final four for the second straight season and for the fourth time since 2009. Collins, on the other hand, has clinched its second trip since 2012. Entering the season’s final weekend, the Cougarettes have an 8-1 playoff record and the Tigers are a perfect 9-0 in the postseason.

Matchup Pick: New Braunfels Canyon

Other State Reps: Katy (35-2-0) and Keller (35-3-1)

State Championship Pick: Keller over New Braunfels Canyon

4A State Semifinal: Fredericksburg (35-9-0) vs. Huffman Hargrave (36-7-1)

What you need to know: Fredericksburg made program history when it clinched its first UIL state berth this season. Hargrave, on the other hand, has reached this stage three times since 2014. Both the Battlin’ Billies and Falcons have a 10-1 mark in the 2019 postseason.

Matchup Pick: Huffman Hargrave

Other State Reps: Decatur (29-5-0) and Anna (24-8-1)

State Championship Pick: Decatur over Huffman Hargrave

3A State Semifinal: Hallettsville (36-1-0) vs. Danbury (29-5-0)

What you need to know: Hallettsville has advanced to UIL state for the second time since 2015 and earned its third appearance since 2009. Danbury, on the other hand, has three trips since 2011 and four appearances since 2004. The Brahmas are 8-1 in the 2019 postseason, while the Lady Panthers are perfect through eight contests.

Other State Reps: Rains (32-1-0) and Brock (33-6-0)

State Championship Pick: Hallettsville over Rains

1A State Semifinal: D’Hanis (22-7-1) vs. Dodd City (9-8-0)

What you need to know: D’Hanis is making its second straight trip to UIL state and its third appearance since 2005. Dodd City, on the other hand, has played this late in two of the past three years and three times since 2003. Both the Cowgirls and Hornets are 4-0 in the 2019 postseason.

Matchup Pick: D’Hanis

Other State Reps: Borden County (16-6-0) and Chireno (14-9-0)
